Synopsis: Alex Sheldon (Luke Wilson) is a broke author with writer's block and a debt of $100,000 to Cuban loan sharks. After destroying his computer, the thugs give Alex 30 days to pay or he winds up dead. The only way Alex can get the money is by finishing his novel -- which is currently less than one sentence long. He secures the services of opinionated stenographer Emma Dinsmore (Kate Hudson) to help him save his skin. The story of Adam Shipley (also portrayed by Wilson) emerges. The fictional Adam is a romantic young writer hired to tutor the children of Polina Delacroix (Sophie Marceau), a chic French woman in dire financial straits. Adam develops an obsessive love for Polina while ignoring the potential for true love with her au pair, known in successive incarnations Swedish, German, Spanish and American (all played by Kate Hudson). Meanwhile, Alex and Emma spend their days and nights working on the novel. Emma challenges his ideas at every turn, and her input begins to influence Alex and his story.
