Synopsis: 'Jack the Ripper is legendary as the first 20th century tabloid celebrity - albeit an unidentified one. He gained his infamy during a ten-week period in London in 1888. The ripper gruesomely murdered five prostitutes, generating an atmosphere of terror on the streets of London. He was never identified or punished for his crimes - publicly, at least. This movie hypothesizes the conspiracy behind the abominations and why the truth was never revealed. The Metropolitan police forces best detective - the intuitive Fred Abberline (Johnny Depp) - investigates the case and becomes convinced that the slayer is as much a genius as he is a madman and killer. During his probe, he ingratiates himself with the gang of East End whores the ripper seems to be stalking - and begins to fall in love with one of them, Mary Kelly (Heather Graham).
