Tony Scott
Of the directorial brothers known as Ridley and Tony Scott, Ridley is probably more popular of late, and certainly considered the less commercial of the two. But lately, they've both been re-imagining what film is to them, and their work is becoming less differentiated. In other words, now they both flock to portrayals of war buddy films. So perhaps it's best to look back at some of Tony's greatest films by way of understanding how he's become such a mainstay in action-packed Hollywood filmmaking.
Tony Scott may not be considered an auteur, but he does have a stylish flair he brings to his big blockbuster films that indicate we may see an artsier side to this director - we already have, if we look carefully enough. Hailing from England, Scott first tried his hand at art school and a life as a painter. He then opted for filmmaking, which he entered by way of that famed career starter, the TV commercial.
