Luc Besson Luc Besson is one of the hot young directors out there with pizzazz and panache. The funny thing is, he's not really that young. It's just that he made the leap from fringe French filmmaking, to Hollywood, where he's been enjoying a second life, so to speak. And so, apparently, is his audience, to say nothing of the actors who have scrambled to work with him. Writer, producer and director, Besson is a multi-talented wonderboy in the world of movies.

Besson was only 24 years old when he directed his first film, Le Dernier Combat (1983) - the same age, incidentally, that Orson Welles was when he began work on Citizen Kane (1940), arguably the best American film ever made. This film was very popular, and Besson distinguished himself for making a film using original black and white cinematography, and very little dialogue.
